Extra Dry Skin in the Summer Needs Special Care
from:Summer is a very bad time of the year for our skin, often giving us extra dry skin. Summer care is very important in keeping our skin healthy. Although wintertime is infamous for drying out our skin, summer is almost as bad. If you plan to spend a lot of time in the sun, you may wind up with some extra dry skin if summer care is not used on your skin. If you already have dry skin before summer even begins, summer won't be as bad for you as winter was, but you'll still need to take care of your skin.
You've probably suffered through the long winter just waiting for the summer to come. Summertime, to many, means sitting in the sun, swimming, lying on the beach or many outdoor activities. While this all sounds like a lot of fun, you need to take care of your skin first. A lot of the care for your skin will depend on what kind of summer activities you'll be in and what your skin type is. As a rule, though, you won't need as much of a moisturizer; you'll need lighter makeup, but a heavier sunscreen.
Even though summer isn't very bad for dry skin, to avoid it becoming extra dry skin, summer care should be used. Individuals with dry skin may notice that their skin isn't as dry or itchy in the summer as it was in the winter. Dermatologists recommend using less moisturizer in the summer and a gentle cleanser. The type of cleanser you use on your body is very important because it's being used quite a few times each day, especially your hands. A gentle cleanser should always be used but more so in the summer months. There are many effective soaps for your face, but it's recommended that you not wash your face more than three times per day. Non-soap cleansers like Oil of Olay, Neutrogena or Purpose are very good to avoid extra dry skin. Summer care is also important if you plan to spend a lot of time swimming.
Chlorine and pool chemicals can really dry out your skin so make sure you clean them off your body when you're done swimming. Once again, use a mild cleanser or just water as a rinse for your body. Makeup is fine in the summer but finding ones with sunscreen is a great idea. Anytime you are planning to spend time outside in the sun, you should have sunscreen on. In addition to sunscreen, you should use body lotion that contains SPF. If you're using lip balm or lipstick, some good extra dry skin summer care comes in the form of lip balm with an SPF of at least 15. Summer time can still be fun and your favorite time of the year without it ruining your skin.
